The Race & ... Conference elevates the work of the University's race-related centers, the health sciences, and Africana Studies and promotes and celebrates collaboration between centers and departments on campus.

Event Schedule

9-10 a.m. - Harambee* Hour

  • Registration
  • Breakfast 
  • Marketplace and Networking: Learn more about the race-related research taking place at Pitt with representatives from a variety of University centers**, as well as select graduate students who will display posters showcasing their own race-related research here at Pitt.

 * Harambee means "all pull together" in Swahili. 

10 a.m.-10:45 a.m. - Conference Opens

  • Conference Welcome and Overview
  • Opening Remarks: Dr. John Wallace
  • Keynote: Dr. Kathy Humphrey

11 a.m.-noon - Centering of the Minds Panel
This panel discussion will focus on the mission and scholarship of Pitt's race-related centers and departments. 

Noon-1:10 p.m. - Lunch

1:15 p.m.-3 p.m. - Center Roundtable Talks**

3 p.m.-3:30 p.m. - Closing Exercise
